5 Secrets to a Happy Healthy Menopause

The term ‘menopause’ is technically the day that you have not had a period for 12 months. However, we use this term to describe the entire period of peri-menopause.

Approximately 80% of women will be affected by the fluctuations in hormones that occur during perimenopause.

Some of the symptoms of peri-menopause

u

Anxiety

Constantly worrying about things that wouldn’t have agitated you ten years ago? Hypervigilant? Racing thoughts?

Poor Sleep

Waking in the night suddenly? Not sure why you’re awake but assuming it’s down to the near constant vivid dreams or the hot bed?

Hot Flushes

Thundering tightness in your head and chest, followed by a wave of heat and anxiety? Sometimes with sweats or chills.

Memory & concentration issues

Feeling flustered more often and beginning to secretly doubt your abilities? Foggy thinking or needing to rely more on lists?

Joint aches and pains

Aching joints, especially knees and hips when sitting and rising, or in bed at night? Worried you’re just old before your time?

Headaches and migraines

Change in frequency of headaches or migraines, and less easy to pick out what is setting them off?

Racing heart, dizziness and fatigue

Heart beating out of your chest or worrying that you might keel over? Or feeling like all the life has drained out of you?

Digestive issues

More bloated than normal? More foods making you uncomfortable? Food tasting different or needing stronger flavours?

Weight gain

Finding that weight control methods that you have used before are not working anymore? Worried that gaining is inevitable?

Changes in Bleeding

More or less frequent bleeding, spotting mid cycle, or skipping cycles? Lighter bleeds or very heavy bleeds, flooding or clots?

More frequent UTIs

Realising that you just seem to get water infections more often now than you used to in the past?

Changes in sex drive and dryness

Less interested or too tired to find the enthusiasm? Or wanting the closeness but finding it physically uncomfortable?

Menopause is not something that we have to just “let happen”. We can stop feeling in conflict with our body and work in harmony with it, to make this transition as smooth and restorative as possible.
