What is an eating disorder?

We may know about Anorexia or Bulimia, but there is a whole range of disordered eating that sit in the middle. Many of us have spent years, bouncing from one diet to another, and Marcelle supports clients who want to come away from the yo-yo and have a better relationship with food.

Marcelle even admits that she became very controlling over her eating when she suffered with IBS, however she now realises that restricting her diet wasn’t helping her improve her health. Also, her anxiety over what foods to eat was probably contributing as much to the IBS as the actual food.

Is it possible to overcome it?

Yes!

The difficult thing is that we do have to eat, and so when food is a trigger for you, there is a lot of work to do. But, with the right support, it is possible to have a healthy relationship with food again.

Marcelle works with clients to educate them on what a balanced diet might look like, so that they are able to create their own version. Enabling them to help them understand and recognise their cues, so that they are able to successfully deal with them.

What would you advise someone who is controlling their diet?

Think about the internal conversation you are having. How are you speaking to yourself? We are often judgemental and shaming. Imagine it was your friend, and how you would speak to them and change the rhetoric.

Quick fire!

  • What is your most positively memorable meal? Lamb and veg Sunday lunch in a country pub
  • What food reminds you of childhood? Chicken and roast onions on a Sunday
  • What have you got for tea? Leftover vegetable lasagne.
