This episode Wendy talks to inventor of the Hydroveg Kit Sue Tonks.
The hydroveg kits are a hydroponic vertical growing system. Sue is passionate about helping everyone have access to fresh vegetables and fruit. She currently supply’s her kits to individuals and schools, but would love to supply them to developing countries.
Her large kit holds more plants than an average allotment, it can grown vegetables, herbs and flowers. Hydroponics are a soil free way of growing, circulating water and nutrients to the plants using just a pond pump. Through planting carefully and efficiently the kits can supply a family all year round.
Although the plants cannot be classed as organic as they are not grown in soil, the food supplied by Sue has all the nutrients the plant needs. There is a grow to start growth and bloom to encourage fruit (or flowers) and the feed is as natural as she can source. Passionate about keeping the kits as natural as possible she shares her top spray tip for reducing aphids.
Sue has won many awards for her growing kits including The Coventry Telegraph Green Business 2019 and the FSB Ethical Green Business of the Year.
Her kits are vertical, fully moveable and she also uses eco recycled plastic for the frames.
