Hello and welcome to today’s podcast. I will today be giving you some great advice while I interview Dani Saveker about The GLAS Method. Dani and I met at a time when I needed it most and The GLAS Method really helped me. I firmly believe that this can be applied to every area of life!
What is The GLAS Method?
Dani is CEO and Founder of The GLAS Method which stands for Global Life Alignment System. It is something that she developed to help her own situation as being part of a family business and it’s challenges, and the subsequent challenges she faced when having to close that business and work out what she did next. Dani needed a vision, something to help her focus and deal with the challenges that life gives us all. The GLAS method is her life’s work, at first a personal quest, then the realisation that the vision and framework could be used in every day life. The method is now being used in Canada, Australia and US and is really helping executives, family businesses and sportspeople to feel and be better. She is now a master life coach.
I had wanted Dani to come onto a podcast for a long time. During lockdown it has become apparent that balance is so important. Dani created an understanding assessment during lockdown which allowed her to really see what the people need and understand what they are feeling. The assessment shows what is going on with peoples lives and helps them see where the imbalances are, taking time to think about how we are feeling is an important step. It is completely free of charge, with no expectations. Click here to access it.
In the basic understanding assessment, Dani looks at:
Purpose – Why are we doing this
External world – How we interact with and impact on the world
Doing – How we spend our time
Relationships – How we relate to others and ourselves
Ourself – Our identity. Understanding who you are
The connectors – how we go from who we are to our purpose
The motivation of our behaviours – what really motivates us
These can all be in 1 of 3 states. The ideal state is balance – this is what we want but we find that we are imbalanced. Under balanced means that we have an insufficient amount of something, or when we over balance we can overcompensate. If you don’t have the balance it causes chaos and doubt which means at you go into survival mode. You need a quick fix. This can reflect in different ways, for example it may be your diet, you comfort eat as you are over balanced. Then the emotional side kicks in and you become under balanced meaning a lack of appetite and drastic weight loss. Depression and anxiety happen due to imbalance. If everything is out of control in your life, you cling onto the the only things you can control, like what you eat.
Dani now manages her balance by using The GLAS Method, she designed it for herself. She wanted to be strong. She exercises, she is conscious about hat she eats. Communication is essential and she used the method to communicate with her husband. They spend 20 minutes each morning to listen to each other. At the end of each day, her husband and her family reflect on their day. As a family, they use a process to communicate around the dinner table. The 5 areas of the process are:
L – Learn – What have you learned
E – Energy – How do you feel
A – Action – What is something big that you need to do
P – Processing – Whats on your mind
S – Shout out – Who or what are you grateful for
Dani really does utilise the whole system herself, and she got her family involved because she admits she was sick of the lack of conversation. Whilst she always took time to ask the question ‘how was your day’ now that the family use LEAPS it creates a much more interesting discussion. They now talk (and laugh) for the whole meal time and it helps the conversation to flow.
GLAS can give the power to move forward, it looks at the 5 threads to how we lead each day:
Kindness – under balanced – judgement, personal judgement and judging others
Hope – under balanced – fear – I’m not good enough and cant do this
Choice – make bad choices as are controlled by our feelings
Passion – lose that get up and go
Gifts – I cant do it, end up helpless
If Im having a bad day, I feel out of balance and try to be kinder to myself.
If you feel any sort of imbalance, or would like to know more then please fill out the assessment.
