Episode 67 – My Christmas Food

In this week’s episode, I want to talk to you about which foods remind me of my Christmas memories and my traditions.

My Childhood Christmas

The one thing that I love each year is my Christmas Day dinner. In my younger years, I did not eat turkey, gravy, stuffing or cranberry sauce…how awkward was I? Sorry Mom!

My poor mom used to cook pork at Christmas and I would have roast pork with plenty of vegetables and a few trimmings instead.

I love Christmas dinner now, including the turkey AND the gravy! I do not like the sweeter options of Christmas; Christmas pudding, mince pies and Christmas cake are a big no from me. I love satsumas though, they hold so many fond memories of Christmas in my childhood as we had a couple of them in our socks (not stockings) with some chocolate and a toy.

Christmas as an adult

My husband’s family love Christmas traditions which have passed down to us. On Christmas eve we would have lasagne for tea, on Christmas morning we would have bucks fizz for breakfast and then we have smoky bacon muffins. The men then would go to the local pub whilst we cooked the dinner. On Christmas night, my Mum would make this huge buffet for the next day and we would play party games. The buffet lasted for days as there was so much!

This Christmas

At the time of recording we are hoping to go out for Christmas lunch, depending on restrictions of course! If not, I will be cooking a full Christmas lunch with all of the trimmings for myself and my husband. Without the puddings of course!

What are you doing for Christmas? Do you have any new traditions ready for this year? I would love to know, please contact me via Facebook or Instagram.
