In the summer I published a recipe for Easy Oats which uses fruit juice as liquid. I did include milk in the variations, but as I’ve been specifically asked for my recipe with milk several times I’ve decided to include this as a separate recipe, even though technically it isn’t!
It really is the simplest of recipes, using just oats and milk (or milk substitute) as the basis, and top with fresh or frozen fruit and bob it into the fridge overnight, I have it nearly every day, and it is my favorite breakfast by far. It’s also a great way of getting some extra nutrients at the beginning of the day: we add flaxseed to ours as my husband doesn’t eat any oily fish. If you are vegetarian or vegan you could add some ground nuts to give you some additional protein.
Recipe – serves 1
- 30g porridge oats
- 100ml milk or alternative
- top with fruit of choice
I have a little bowl that is exactly the right quantity for me, and 100ml is two bowlful’s so I don’t have to measure a thing
.
I grab as many containers as I can find and make up loads of portions. They will keep was long as the milk is in date, and you can freeze them, just make sure you defrost thoroughly before eating. I prefer mine when they have been out of the fridge for half an our or so, but my husband likes his ice cold straight from the fridge.
In the summer I use fresh fruit and in the winter I use frozen – they couldn’t be simpler
