Episode 124 – Breaking sugar habits, with Melissa Rohlfs

In this episode, I talk to Melissa Rohlfs who shares with us how to quit sugar and have a better relationship with food.

About Melissa

“Melissa Rohlfs is a certified holistic health and life coach helping busy women break free from what prevents them from being their authentic selves, so they can be calm, confident and healthy. Around food. Around sugar. Around what triggers them. In stressful situations. In their bodies. In their life. She is committed to empowering women to find freedom and feel empowered in their own skin.

After her own tumultuous history with food {withholding and then later in life, bingeing}, she learned how to deal with the core issues around her broken relationship with food. As a result, she felt called to go to school and learn to teach other women how to do the same. She graduated from the Health Coach Institute as a Holistic Health and Life Coach in 2018 and is the proud owner of Free 2 B Coaching. She is a proud Boilermaker alumna living in Arizona with her husband, Chad, and two kiddos.”

Why is food so controlling in our lives?

Melissa believes that it is deeper than that, and we need to listen to our bodies and ask questions. Respect where we are, but try to delve deeper into the why behind the why.

Then add into this equation the super addictive food that is sugar, and it is a recipe for disaster. Melissa wants us to think of sugar as a poison, this is a great way of helping you omit it from your life.

Women are leaders, like it or not!

Whilst it is tough to hear, mothers send messages to their children. Do you like similar foods to your mom? Or find yourself making the same decisions around food? This is because we have been led by women in our lives. So understanding our own drivers, coming to terms with that and making positive changes is not only healing for us, it is setting a good example for the next generation.

Tips for gaining freedom

  • Stay hydrated – the easiest and simplest way to take care of your own health.
  • Stop judging – instead ask why. Lead with curiosity rather than judgement.
  • Sleep – we cannot function well without sleep, so make sure you get a good night of sleep to help you make better decisions.

What have you got for tea?

Taco’s!

Not just any tacos though, grass fed ground beef in Melissa’s taco’s, with a big plate of spinach salad.
