Changing our attitude and the way we think can have a profound impact on our wellbeing. Kim Carr is a positivity coach and my guest this week.
About Kim
Kim is a Positive Psychology Coach. She coaches many people from teachers, business people, doctors and people who just know that they are not living their lives to the full. Kim has a particular passion for peri/menopausal women who are struggling as life changes, our bodies and minds seem to spiral and we question our identity. The menopause needs to be viewed holistically diet, relationships, emotions, engagement. meaning and accomplishment. Mostly, we need to be heard individually but also with a tribe of women who understand and can emphasise. For everyone, their experience is different, coaching helps women say exactly what is on their minds without judgement and with unconditional positive regard.
Looking for the positives
As humans we have evolved to look for negatives as a survival mechanism. Kim noticed through her work in school that encouraging students to notice the positives made a big difference to their mental health and she encourages us all to do that.
Women going through the menopause can often be filled with thoughts about what they can’t do anymore, rather than realising all that they have achieved already and then recognising their skills and what they can do in the future to utilise them.
Stronger & Wiser
As we approach the menopause women are stronger and wiser. It isn’t about trying to recreate who you were in your 20’s. It’s about discovering the amazing person you can be in the next part of your life journey.
Kim uses Barbara Fredrickson’s ten big emotions to help us find that joy in life and empowering us to feel amazing.
- Love
- Hope
- Serenity
- Awe
- Gratitude
- Interest
- Inspiration
- Enjoyment
- Pride
- Amusement
Thinking positively takes work, but with practise it opens up our world to more enjoyment and happiness.
What is positive coaching
Kim believes it is a privilege to be able to help people feel more positively about their lives, and to have the opportunity to really discuss what it is that is affecting them. Giving women the chance to offload and realise that they are not alone, and are not the only ones feeling anxious, annoyed, tired or confused.
Her Monday night group coaching calls are designed to reach a wider audience and give women a taster of what coaching is like. She is offering all podcasts listeners 10% discount, just message her and quote the podcast.
Thriving through menopause coaching
Finding your joy
As Kim approached menopause she realised that she was feeling anxious and her body and mind needed care. She took control of her diet through my transformation program got help with her hormones with oestrogel, prioritising sleep, practising gratitude and positive thinking. She is a firm believer that it is a wholistic approach that is needed, no one thing alone works.
Both Kim and I have discovered paddleboarding as a way to find calmness, joy and excitement. Kim wants us all to understand that everyone should have something in their lives that is for them, and to bring themselves joy.
