When it comes to health and nutrition, we are constantly bombarded with conflicting advice—should we be using glucose monitors? Can supplements fix a poor diet? Is counting calories the key to weight loss? And what about biohacking?
In this article I break down some of the most common misconceptions surrounding diet, weight management, and biohacking. If you’re looking for clarity and practical, science-backed guidance, you’re in the right place. Plus, if you want to dive deeper into these topics, you’ll find links to my latest podcast episodes throughout the article.
Glucose monitors – Useful or just a trend?
While glucose monitors have their place, they are not necessary for everyone. Understanding your body’s needs and making dietary and lifestyle changes should always come first.
Understanding glucose monitors
Glucose monitoring is becoming increasingly popular, with many people using continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) to track their blood sugar levels. While these devices can provide valuable insights, they are not necessarily useful for everyone. Unless you have diabetes or specific health concerns, obsessing over glucose levels can mean we are focusing on one nutrient rather than a balanced diet.
The reality of wearing a continuos glucose monitor
Is focusing one one nutrient appropriate or even helpful? For some it can give an insight into their body’s reaction to certain foods or circumstances, but if we obsess over one single nutrient we are in danger of forgetting that a balanced diet is aways our aim.
If you would like to hear what I learned from wearing a continuous glucose monitor for two weeks. What made my blood levels spike and drop, and how we can misinterpret the figures conciously and subconciously, tune into the full podcast episode. And if you would like to try one for yourself here is the link to the one I used.

You can’t out-supplement a poor diet
Supplements can be a great addition to a healthy lifestyle, but they should never replace real food. While many people believe that taking a handful of supplements can make up for a poor diet, the truth is that nutrients work best when consumed in their natural form, through a varied and balanced diet.
RDA, NRV, and what they really mean
Many people look at the back of a supplement bottle and see they are getting 100% of their Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) or Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) and assume they are covered. However, these values are simply the minimum levels needed to prevent severe medical conditions, not the amounts required for optimal health. For example, the Revive Active supplement contains 1,000 IU of vitamin D—five times the NRV. The NRV for vitamin D is just enough to prevent rickets, but if you want to support immune function, bone health, or overall well-being, you may need much more. Instead of aiming for the bare minimum, it’s far better to use supplements to either top up nutrients when you can’t get enough from food or to support a specific health goal.
Food quality and nutrient levels
Another consideration is the quality of our food. Over-farming and soil depletion, along with long transportation and long storage, mean that our food may be lower in essential nutrients than it once was. This makes it even more important to eat a diverse diet rich in whole foods, rather than relying on supplements alone.
If you’re unsure whether you’re taking the right supplements, I offer a free supplement review to help you assess what your body truly needs.

We are all biohackers – And it’s fun!
Biohacking isn’t just for tech enthusiasts—it’s for everyone. Small tweaks to your daily routine can have a big impact on your health and well-being.
Biohacking is for everyone
I’ll admit it—I used to think biohacking was only for middle-aged men or gym-bro’s willing to spend hundreds of pounds on weird potions, gadgets, and supplements. Weighing everything, taking everything to the extreme, and totally unattainable.
But I was wrong! Biohacking, according to google, is the practice of makign changes to the body or lifestyle to improve health and performance. It can involve using supplements, wearable technology or implants.
Which means that most of us are biohackers, including me. Even making small, intentional changes to optimise our health and wellbeing is a form of biohacking.
Simple biohacks for everyday life
Biohacking doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. It can be as simple as improving your sleep by using a lavender pillow spray, adjusting your diet to support better digestion, or finding ways to manage stress effectively. These small changes can have a profound impact on how we feel every day, and the best part? It can be fun!

Why ‘Calories In, Calories Out’ is an outdated model
Weight management is about much more than calorie counting—nutrient quality, sleep, and stress all play a crucial role.
More than just numbers
For years, we’ve been told that weight loss is as simple as “calories in, calories out.” But if that were true, wouldn’t dieting be easy? The reality is far more complex. Our bodies are influenced by stress, sleep, hormones, and the quality of the food we eat—not just the number of calories we consume.
Nutrient density over calorie counting
A nutrient-dense diet is more effective for weight management than obsessing over calories. When we eat real, unprocessed foods, our bodies receive the essential nutrients needed to function properly, reducing cravings and improving overall health. Processed foods may be calorie-dense, but they lack the vitamins and minerals that support optimal weight balance.
