Using Feng Shui to Create a more balanced and harmonious life with Stephanie Hemsted-Williams – Episode 195

Using Feng Shui principles along with decluttering can support your emotional well-being. Stephanie Hemstead-Williams shares her insights into ways that we can declutter and improve the energy flow of our home, which will improve our personal energy levels too.

About Steph

In a world where chaos reigns, achieving harmony and balance in our surroundings is vital. I’m passionate about utilising Feng Shui principles and decluttering techniques in my coaching. To help harmonise energy flow and simplify our environments, we unlock untapped potential and invite prosperity into every facet of our lives.

How did you get into Feng Shui?

Even as a teenager Steph was interested in Feng Shui and even managed to persuade her family to let her swap bedrooms with her brother!

However it wasn’t until 2012 when she relocated and visited a networking group where someone did a presentation on de-cluttering and Feng Shui principles. She took time to make some small changes to her home and then in 2015 she took a leap and invested in her own development and made true changes to her environment and home and she started to reap the benefits and realised the power it held to help create a future that we want.

Should we build houses to Feng Shui principles?

Whilst Steph would love to work with house builders, and in the ancient roots of Feng Shui houses were built with the principles in mind. However this was ruled out as it was so successful and it is vary rarely practised.

In the modern world, she understands that we can be constricted by the design of our home and works with clients to optimise their rooms and layout. This is to create better harmony and energy in the home.

What is Feng Shui and how does it create harmony & balance?

Working with energy in the home (this can apply to workplace as well), and overlay the bagua map, along with some mathematical calculations to optimise the energy in key zones. For example health is always at the centre of the home, so looking at what is happening at the centre of the home to see if there is clutter or something that might block the energy pathway.

These principles can work throughout our modalities, and I ask clients what their bedroom is like if they are having poor sleep. Steph agrees that clutter in the bedroom can affect our mood and our sleep, bedrooms ideally should be relationship and sleep, and if we need to use them as a multi-functional room is this affecting our sleep? Rather than blaming ourselves look to see if we can use the external environment to see if it is the missing piece of the puzzle.

Does it take longer to have less clutter?

Initially it might take a little more time, and Steph is honest about it might take hours. She does work with clients to declutter and organise, but once you have done this you give yourself the time back in the future. You won’t have to hunt for things and there are no drawers that you are scared to go into.

You make the time back, but more importantly you gain control and increase calm in your life. Once you are sorted you might have to do the odd reset, but these are minor declutters.

And if you can only do one drawer, tidy one drawer and keep on top of it until you are ready to clear the next one.

Does Feng Shui really work?

What have you got to lose? It is very hard to show scientific examples, but we see time and time again in practise that clearing your environment can improve your mood. If you are investing in your health and wellbeing, then taking time to look at Feng Shui in your home is part of your investment in yourself.

Clutter can act as a block to our energy, home should be a refuge at the end of the day. Just clearing one small area to create a little haven will have a positive impact on your mental health and energy levels.
