Week 14

So far it’s been a beautiful bank holiday weekend, I hope you are all enjoying it as much as me.
it’s been a busy weekend which started on Friday with a lovely sunny brunch at Faro to celebrate my friends birthday earlier in the week. We then travelled up to friends in Leeds for the evening and on to York Races on Saturday, it was a great day at the races, the weather and company was perfect. Then a delicious meal afterwards at The Star in the City, which I can’t take credit for booking: my fab friend Yvonne booked the entire event for us all.  She did some research and it was highly recommended and had great reviews, I concur, the food was excellent, it’s a great location, and they looked after our table of ten slight worse for wear race goers extremely well.
Back to  to sunny Lichfield on Sunday for the very impressive Food and Drink festival. We popped into town for a quick look around whilst on our dog walk and were amazed by the number of stalls, and the amount of people still wandering around the festival at 5pm.  We had a quick recon so we at least know where we want breakfast from this morning.  Then a quick drink at our local The Horse and Jockey, they were part of the real ale festival and also had a a barbie and a band on, and we ended up siting with the other locals int the carpark as the pub and beer garden was full of foodie festival people!
Best things about this week
Amazing bank holiday weather
Farm shop sausage twirl on Thursday meant quick and convenient dinner
York races, even had a couple of winners
Lichfield food festival
Freezer is ready for a re-stock
Biggest challenge this week
Eating prepped salad for lunch rather than nipping to the local sandwich shop
Last Monday I had a load of things in the fridge that were on the turn so I did a load of cooking, and we’ve pretty much lived of that along with some pre-prepped meals from the freezer this week.  So apart  from my veg box on Thursday and a quick trip to Packington Farm shop for a few essentials like crisps and chocolates I’ve not shopped at all this week.
However I’m looking forward to visiting the Food and Drink festival again today and stocking up the fridge and freezer with some goodies.

A year of shopping locally

In May 2017 I set myself a 90 day challenge to buy all my food (eating in and out) from local independent retailers, at the end of the 90 days it had made such an impact on me that I committed to continuing supporting my local suppliers indefinitely.  A year later I’m...

March 2018 shop local

It has been quite a challenging month trying to continue to shop local whilst not having a kitchen

February 2018 – shop local

February has been my first full month at home this year, after being lucky enough to have an amazing break over Christmas and New Year in Australia and New Zealand. The builders have pretty much gone, and the extensions almost finished, although work is due to start...
