A recent trip to the local supermarket wearing a face mask prompted me to record this weeks episode. Whilst I realise the importance of remaining safe, it highlighted to me how different shopping is. Which drew the question.
In this weeks podcast I talk about how and where I shop, and how my personal circumstances along with the pandemic has changed this. If you listen to the podcast you will know that I am a supporter of local independent stores, and I’ve been lucky enough to be able to continue this during the lockdown period.
However, my husband often picked up the ‘extras’ from the supermarket next to his work. Now that he has moved his premises this isn’t possible. It’s made me realise how much I dislike shopping right now and definitely made me rethink wether I really need an ingredient or not. I created a free guide at the beginning of lockdown with a week’s worth of recipes created from just 5 ingredients link here and I feel it has more resonance now than ever.
I ask the questions:
- Are you shopping in different places?
- Are you shopping differently? Buying more ‘long life’ produce?
- Are you shopping less often?
In episode 44 of the podcast I talked to Stuart Wilson about the shops running out of items like flour, yeast and pasta at the beginning of the pandemic. He assured me that it wasnt’ that we had run out as a country. It was just that we couldn’t get it to the stores quick enough as consumers hand changed their habits and the supply chain just weren’t ready.
