In this week’s episode, I want to talk to about your health and your responsibilities around it.
Ditch the diet
As you know, I do not like the word diet and I believe that diets simply do not work. This is something that I spoke about in episode 43 in more detail. When following a diet, people often feel better because the diet gets them to cut out ‘junk foods’. It’s not the diet, it’s the removal of the products that I wouldn’t even class as food that makes them feel better.
Chronic Illness
One of my favourite quotes that describe the most effective diet is by Michael Pollan. Michael was approached to look into the common factors linking chronic illness. Chronic illnesses that include, fatigue, type 2 diabetes, gout, digestive issues which are increasing at an alarming rate. Michael found that the two most common factors of chronic long term illnesses are poor diet and poor lifestyle. His famous and succinct quote was “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants” is the nearest he could give to a perfect diet. This is something that I talk about a lot and I feel that it is very appropriate right now.
It is so important that we eat real food that is not processed and is in its truest form. Do not eat anything that will make you feel worse. Eat something that you know will nourish your body.
Michael also spoke about how foods make us feel on an emotional level. As you all know, I love pizza and will eat it regularly! That is ok, as a treat, because it makes me happy. Food is much more than the ingredients and what vitamins and nutrients are in it. Food is about nourishment in many ways. Pizza makes me happy so it nourishes me.
Take responsibility
Nobody deserves to suffer from a chronic illness, however it is our personal responsibility to try and make sure we are doing our best to reduce the risk. I see plenty of people who are ill, and I wish I could reach them before. Eating better and taking responsibility for our own food and our lifestyle is our responsibility.
I understand that it is a tough time at the moment, but it is so important to start taking control and think about what you are putting into your body. It is not up to anyone else to solve problems because of what choices we have made.
Stop making excuses
It is time for some tough love! We all deserve to be healthy. Let’s eat the right foods, let’s get outside and let’s get healthy. I do not want you to feel awful, I want you to feel amazing.
