Light yet comforting recipe, with a bonus that you get to drink the rest of the bottle of wine

Don’t label yourself
What is our obsession with labelling everything? Is it tribal? Maybe its because I’m a nutrition advisor but food seems to be the area where we just love to label ourselves. Every new diet plan has a new name, and there seems to be a new one every week. We all rush to work with our specially selected preordained range of foods in our newly bought containers, and announce to anyone that is interested that we are on the new ‘madwoman diet’ and happily discuss how it’s making us feel healthier...
Vegan Pho style noodle soup
Vegan Pho style noodle soup, perfect recipe for autumn, aromatic, comforting and just spicy enough to make your nose run

Why not take a pill for that?
I recently presented at my business networking group and one of the questions I was asked at the end was what I thought about the possibility of a pill that would deliver all our nutrition needs without us even having to eat. I took a deep breath, swallowed hard and replied ‘I think it’s sad, and I can’t imagine a world where I wouldn’t want to sit with family and friends and enjoy a meal.’ What I really wanted to say is ‘Did you listen to a word I’ve said in the last ten minutes?’. How could...
Shannon’s Salmon Skewers
I spotted a recipe for salmon skewers and forwarded it to my lovely client Shannon as she loves fish and cooking on the barbecue. She tweaked the original recipe and this is her version. I think it’s really unusual to have pineapple and salmon but the combination works really well, and I do like pineapple when its been charred under a grill or barbecue. Ingredients - makes 8 skewers 750g Salmon diced 1 tsp ground ginger 2 tblsp brown sugar 4 tblsp dijon mustartd 4 tblsp soy sauce 1 pineapple...
Lamb and Beef Kebabs
We’ve had the most amazing summer this year, and I’ve made these several times. You can make them with just lamb, or just beef mince but I like the combination. The only way to mix them is to get your hands into the mixture. I challenge you to try these rather than the shop bought ones, they are so quick and easy to make and you can adjust the seasoning to suit yourself and your guests. The only fiddly bit is grating the onion, but it is worth it. Ingredients – makes about 20 to 22 kebabs •...
Potato Salad
Early season potatoes are the best for this, and it’s a great side for my Lamb and Beef Kebabs. My hubby doesn’t like the mayo loaded potato salads that are commonly available; so I make this version for him, and if I’m honest I prefer it now myself. I often make it and take it to friends parties and it has always been gratefully received. It’s also fabulous with mackerel, in fact I could just eat it out of the bowl any day, all day. Ingredients – serves 4 but is easily doubled or tripled for...
Carrot and Cumin Salad
This is so simple, and a really tasty addition to any meal. I serve it as part of a tapas, or as a side with any kind of barbecue in the summer. It’s also great for picnics and if we have leftover kebabs or chicken I like it with the cold meat in my lunchbox. It’s a pretty salad due to the ribbons, which are so easy to make. Simply use a peeler and run it down the length of the carrot, you will need to turn it occasionally to get the maximum out of each carrot. I blanch the carrots in boiling...
